Saffron is an expensive spice made from the stamens of purple saffron crocus flowers. This does not mean, however, that the spice should not be in a cupcake. In fact, when added to this delectible vanilla cupcake batter, saffron adds a bright color – yellow – and unique taste to the mix. The frosting on these treats also contains saffron, however, a saffron infused butter has to be made first. It may sound like a lot of work, but it really is not, and the results are worth it!
